traditional "grape stomping"), a controlled temperature of fermentation, and aging in barriques (small oak barrels). Next travel the narrow, country roads from Ragusa to Santa Croce Camerina. We will stop to enjoy the view of Donnafugata Castle, a commanding structure immersed in an atmospheric carob woods unique to the province. This one of a kind setting has been used for movie scenes including "The Jar" in the film "Kaos", directed by the Taviani brothers. This afternoon we will make a short stop in Ragusa. Take a relaxing stroll through the historic town of Ibla whose streets display a wide array of Baroque architecture, including several superb palaces and churches. Finally continue to Taormina, the best-known resort town in Sicily, notable for its views and atmosphere. (BB)
Day 7 (Friday): Etna Volcano and Winery.
A short drive takes us from the base of Mount Etna to her often snow-covered summit. We will visit the upper craters, by cable car (weather and volcanic conditions permitting) to experience the lava fields and incredible landscape view from Europe's highest active volcano. Next on to a winery and a farmhouse. This estate also produces olive oil, grappa, sparkling wine, and traditionally produced local food. We will take pleasure in a typical Sicilian light lunch at the farmhouse. This afternoon, back to Taormina and time at leisure. (BB L)
Day 8 (Saturday) Taormina.
A free day to shop for those last minute souvenirs, take a swim in our clear azure waters, or just relax. Tonight we gather for a Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant and a Brindisi di Arrivederci-Good Bye Toast. (BB D)
Day 9 (Sunday) Taormina and Catania.
Pack up your souvenirs and your memories, time to say goodbye to Sicily and transfer to Catania Airport (CTA) for your return flight. (BB)
