The presence of wine in this part of Sicily dates back to the 2nd millennium B.C. Greek mythology tells about the story when Ulysses in the Odyssey was able to run away from the Polypemus, only after having gotten the giant drunk on wine made from grapes grown at the slopes of Etna. The art of cultivating and working the grapes at the slopes of Etna has ancient origins and customs. Grapes are traditionally cultivated in many areas of the volcano, but a few only are favoured by pedoclimatic conditions, particularly suitable for the production of high quality grapes. Temperature and its remarkable changes influence the processes of blossoming and maturation of grapes, luminosity as well depends upon exposure and affects the enzyme phenomena responsible for acid and sugar metabolism.

Day 1 - Wednesday.
Arrival at the Aloha D'Oro Hotel in Acireale. In the afternoon, at 06:00PM, presentation of the 8 selected wines to accompany our 4 dinners, from Wednesday to Saturday, at the wine cellar Il Tocco Di Vino. Dinner at the hotel and overnight.
Day 2 - Thursday.
After breakfast, at 09:00AM, departure towards Piano Provenzana and short stop at the

Day 3 - Friday.
After breakfast, one way shuttle to Acireale city centre, at 800 metres from the hotel (the Cathedral, SS. Peter and Paul Church, Basilica of S. Sebastian). At 03:30PM, guided visit of the Riserva Naturale La Timpa - route Acquegrandi - accompanied by Legambiente (National Association for the Environment). Dinner at the hotel and overnight. Optional excursion: Etna By Jeeps, a collective ― day excursion to Mount Etna, along regular roads and off road tracks, to reach Mount Fontana and the Bove Valley, the Thieves Cave, the Sartorius Mounts. Rate per person, Euro 55.00 (please check availability at the reception). Dinner at the hotel and overnight.
Day 4 - Saturday.
Breakfast at the hotel and, at 09:00AM, departure towards Zafferana Etnea, with a brief stop at the lava castings of 1991 - 1993. We then visit the Museo dell'Apicoltore. After the visit, we proceed to the Gambino winery, for a guided visit and a wine tasting, accompanied by typical local products. After the wine tasting, we drive towards the hotel. In the afternoon, At 03:00PM, guided visit of the Riserva Naturale La Timpa - route Le Chiazzette - accompanied by Legambiente (National Association for the Environment).
