Day 2 (Sunday): Monreale and Palermo.
Breakfast at hotel. Our first stop today is Monreale where the Arab-Norman art and architecture is represented at its peak in the Duomo, began in 1174 by William II. Scenes are depicted in golden mosaics from the Old and New Testaments. Returning to Palermo you will visit the Palatine Chapel, the crowning architectural achievement of William II's grandfather, Roger II. Our tour continues to Palermo's highlights: Piazza Pretoria and Via Maqueda with its "four corners" converging at a quartet of Baroque palaces dating back to 1560 from the height of Spanish rule. Your afternoon is free to explore the town on your own or OPTIONAL EXCURSION (see optional excursion below). (BB)

Day 3 (Monday): Palermo, Cefalů, Polizzi Generosa and Taormina.

also home to a breathtaking Norman Cathedral with dazzling mosaics. Take a stroll to the city center and down the main street to reach the Cathedral. Next, we drive across the vast countryside of the Madonie Park showcasing Sicily's great variety of microclimates. The territory of the Madonie mountains is a paradise of contrasts and a bit off the beaten track. We will visit Polizzi Generosa-a delightful town nestled in the heart of the Madonie Natural Park. You will experience a simpler time viewing the ancient masseria transformed into a farmhouse, the flourmills utilizing the plentiful water supply of the area, and the furnaces still used today to make ceramics. Enjoy a light lunch at a country trattoria tasting typical local dishes.

You will experience a simpler time viewing the ancient masseria transformed into a farmhouse, the flourmills utilizing the plentiful water supply of the area, and the furnaces still used today to make ceramics. Enjoy a light lunch at a country trattoria tasting typical local dishes. This afternoon we will continue to Taormina, the principal resort town of Sicily. (BB L)

Day 4 (Tuesday): Taormina, Syracuse and Taormina.
Today it's a visit to Syracuse. First we will visit the exceptional Archaeological Park where we will explore the 5th-century BC Greek Theatre, the stone quarries, the Roman Amphitheatre and the Paradise Quarry. We will later walk through the island of Ortigia, the picturesque and fascinating original center of Syracuse. Today's lunch is at a local Syracuse restaurant. In the afternoon we return to Taormina. (BB L)

Day 5 (Wednesday): Taormina.
A free day to relax, shop, explore, take a swim in our clear azure waters, or OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS (see optional excursions below). (BB)

Day 6 (Thursday): Taormina, Catania airport and Malta.
Pack up your souvenirs and your memories, time to say goodbye to scintillating Sicily. Today transfer to Catania airport to an independent flight (www.airmalta.com) or ferry to Malta. Upon arrival at Malta airport or port a driver will transfer you to your hotel. (BB)

Day 7 (Friday): Malta (Valletta, Mosta Dome, Mdina Medieval City and Rabat).
Welcome to the beautiful archipelago of Malta! Following breakfast, we will begin our exploration with Valletta where we will enjoy an exceptional vista of the immense fortifications of  the Grand Harbour from the fragrant Barraka Gardens. Next a stroll along
medieval city of Mdina, built in the 9th century on a plateau in the center of the island where from the ancient walls you have a stunning view of the island. Step back in time as you wander this medieval city exploring its maze of narrow alleys and impressive architecture; absorb the ambiance this special city as you experience an earlier age. Free time for lunch. The afternoon finds us in the old town of Rabat. Here the small winding streets bring us to the center, where the imposing St. Paul's Church dominates the piazza. Rabat, lays claim to the origins of Maltese Christianity. It is thought that in AD60 that the Apostle St Paul, after being shipwrecked, stayed for a brief time on the Island. St. Paul's Grotto is the place St Paul was said to have stayed while visiting the islands. One of Malta's most famous churches, Mosta Dome, is our final destination. The church's dome, the third largest unsupported dome in the world, the first and second being St. Peter's in Rome and St. Sophia in Istanbul. Mosta Dome is also notable in another way; the locals say that in World War II a bomb punctured the dome, falling within the church but not detonating. This was hailed as a miracle since there was a service being conducted at the time but no one was injured. Return to the hotel. (BB L)

Day 8 (Saturday): Malta Airport.
Time to say goodbye with fond memories of Sicily and Malta. Transfer to the airport for your return flight. (BB)
